THE PLASTIC POLLUTION PROBLEM
Plastic is everywhere, with unprecedented ecological, social, economic, and health consequences.
One could write several books about it and still wouldn’t fully comprehend its complexity. Plastic pollution is one of the most underestimated and severe problems of the 21st century.
Every 3 seconds 1 ton of plastic waste ends up in the oceans.
Every year146 million tones of plastic packaging are produced.
… But only 20% are recycled.
…And south-east Asia contributes to 70% of the worldwide plastic pollution
Plastic on land, where it pollutes beaches, forests and villages.
WHAT WE DO
A few years ago, a group of students decided to do something about this issue. For a world without plastic pollution, we provide plastic alternatives/ substitutes to places which need them the most, we clean polluted areas and create awareness - sustainably implemented by local and circular businesses.
PROVIDING PLASTIC SUBSTITUTES
Locally tailored to the complex context and characteristics of each target market, we search for alternatives to the predominant plastic products.
On our first local production site in Thailand, we produce drinking water which will then be filled in our glass bottles and sold to gastronomy & hotels.
Glassic handles plastic waste that is already out there. With local partner organisations, we will carry out systematic beach-clean ups on our target island. Pilot clean-ups have already been conducted and proved successful.
BEACH CLEAN UPS
By involving locals in our business, we create awareness for plastic pollution & waste management. With enough revenues, we will collaborate with NGOs and local institutions to establish educational programs and raise systematic awareness for the problem.
OUR MISSION & GLOBAL APPROACH
Our whole concept is built to be scaled to various locations, with solutions adapted to the specific socioeconomic context of each market.
Ko Kut is an exciting first project, and we want to bring substitutes like the glassic bottle to as many regions affected by plastic pollution as possible. Our vision is to establish businesses in several countries, thus enabling us to combat plastic pollution on a transnational basis. This approach will guide us and our purpose: doing everything for a world without plastic pollution.
OUR TEAM & HOW WE WORK
We are a team of thirteen volunteers from Enactus Munich with a diverse range of personal, academic and cultural backgrounds. Most of us are active students, pursuing undergraduate or postgraduate degrees. Our business managers coordinate and supervise the operational implementation in Thailand, where our local entrepreneurs do an amazing job of providing the best service and quality possible. We work, decide, and strive together.
