Glassic: The Simple Solution

Updated: Jun 19, 2019

Plastic pollution crisis

It is not new that plastic pollution exposes a severe problem to our oceans. Considered as the blue planet, the Earth is about to see a massive extinction of species in its biggest ecosystem.

By 2050 there will be more plastics than fishes in our oceans

According to the United Nations we have reached the milestone of 8 million plastic tones leaked into our oceans every single year [1]. And this is the equivalent of one truckload of plastic every minute finding its way into our oceans [2].

Plastic pollution can be found in any corner of our oceans. However, South East Asia is the region of our planet where this environmental crisis is more revealed.... and here is where glassic comes into play.

Glassic's mission

Single-use plastics are one of the biggest threats in this problem. Highly consumed and little recycled, most of them end up in the oceans of South East Asia. The sudden increase of tourism and the constant growth of population in the area, are the responsible of the high demand of single-use products. Together with a lack of proper infrastructures, the waste management is not capable to recycle all the plastics consumed. As a result, they are continuously thrown into rivers, where the water flow will drag them until they find its way to open waters: the ocean…

Glassic envisions a plastic pollution free nature. In order to achieve this, we want to bring solutions to those places where they are not capable to find alternatives to plastic products.

Glassic will start with a reusable glass water bottle system on the island of Koh Kood. Our principal customers are restaurants and hotels, and our impact will be immediately beneficial for the island: more than 700,000 plastic bottles will be saved to end up in the sea yearly.

But we want to be more than those numbers.

Thanks to our revenue, brining the glassic solution to other islands is possible, as well as extending our product portfolio to replace other single-use plastic products. Least but not last, glassic believes that raising awareness is key to our success.

The fight against plastic pollution will not succeed unless individuals take action and make decisions consciously. We believe that glassic is one of those decisions that can make a difference to end one of the most threatening problems that mankind will face during this century. Are you on our side?
